The 2014 Seattle Flower and Garden Show

A collaboration of 4 artists. Ray Hammer, Asa Langrell, Jen Mistaria & Julie Mistaria. Concept design by Julie. Welding by Ray. Glass elements designed by Jen and Julie. Chain maille dragonflies - Julie. Asa helped in all of the phases. We had a lot of the mathematical construction discussions.

Some of the photos were taken unplanned as will be apparent in the resolution.

The base of the sculpture was sourced from tons of reclaimed marine chain. Step 1: line it up to be cut apart. A piece the width of the links had to be cut from each ring to separate them.

Asa earned the nickname "Shredder" as he 'shredded' through the cutting wheels in the separation of the marine chain links. Lots of sparks!!

Julie weaving the legs. Ray picked up that hammer in the picture there and hammered each ring closed. More sparks! Julie tried...ow.

This handy 150 pound buoy in Ray's studio provided the desired arc in the legs. Ray then welded each link in place.

Building the metal part from the bottom up. Base-done. Legs-done. This is the part where we add the "arms" that is, the metal part that will hold the glass bird bath in place. The square holes will also be fitted with fused glass designs. There is the option to but in LED lighting inside/under the square glass pieces.
